Volunteer Opportunity: Fern Ridge Library Native Plantings
November 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Fern Ridge Library in Veneta is planting 4 trees as a visual screen (Cascara and vine maple), as well as native shrubs in a bioswale. We spent the last two seasons knocking back reed canarygrass in the swale with plastic mulch, and it’s ready to plant with shrubs to suppress future reed canarygrass growth. We will also be removing blackberries from areas of the grounds.
Having additional volunteers (2-6 people) would be most helpful. The library has over a half acre of grounds, landscaped with a mix of natives and hardy ornamentals. We’ve been shifting to almost all natives for our new beds and just redid our large front courtyard two years ago with native plants.
Be sure to dress for the weather and bring tools, a snack, and water.
