Conserving Oak Habitats in Eugene’s Ridgeline and Natural Area Parks

September 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a presentation by Emily Steel, an Ecologist in the Parks & Natural Resources Planning section of  the City of Eugene’s Parks and Open Space, when she explains how oak habitats in the Willamette Valley Ecoregion have become quite rare and are now among the most imperiled in the Pacific Northwest. Eugene’s 2,500-acre Ridgeline Park System offers the opportunity to contribute to the conservation of oak ecosystems, and the City has been working to improve habitat conditions for oaks and oak-associated species in its natural area parks for nearly two decades. This presentation will describe the importance of oak ecosystems and the challenges they face, share restoration projects the City has undertaken at several Ridgeline parks, and highlight some of the flora of the Ridgeline park system.
